Publisher's black cloth-effect paper over boards with red titles and 'Heart' design to upper, tail edge untrimmed. A near-fine set, with slight sunning to edges, in like dust jackets. Housed in custom black cloth fleece-lined slipcase. Original black boards, lettering to spines in silver, excepting gilt lettering on Goldfinger and The Man With the Golden Gun. Schøyen's private collection of manuscripts, which span all cultures and all time periods, is one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind. This set is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate. It includes the original short story 007 in New York, here published for the first time in the UK in book-form, as part of the anthology Octopussy and the Living Daylights. This was the first James Bond hardback edition published by Penguin Books, who held the publishing rights to the series for a decade. First editions thus, first impressions, one of 1,000 sets, of this set of the original James Bond titles, issued to commemorate the half century of the completion of Casino Royale in 1952.
